KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg visited Gedong on Sunday (Jan 2).
While there, he said Gedong and Simunjan towns would progress further once development plans for them were implemented.
Besides the development of the Pan Borneo Highway, existing roads in the towns would be upgraded and widened.
He added the Pan Borneo Highway would also boost developments in Samarahan, Sebuyau and Lingga.
Abang Johari added a lab would be established this month to study the level of development as well as the development approaches that had been included in the development master plan for Gedong.
Earlier, the Gedong assemblyman-elect thanked leaders of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) party branches as well as the people of Gedong for giving him the opportunity to lead the constituency.
In the recently concluded 12th state election, he won the Gedong seat with 4,310 votes and a majority of 3,607 votes.
He won the seat in a four-cornered fight against Mohamad Sofian Fariz Sharbini of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Tomson Ango of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) and Cikgu Kamal of Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH).
It was the first time Abang Johari contested in Gedong after serving Satok for 40 years.
